Today, the Gary E. West College of Business has two departments, the Department of Financial Systems and the Department of Administrative Systems, with 20 full-time faculty members. Digital Media Design is a major that combines aspects of art and digital media. Classes are held in the Media Arts Center.

The 5 million dollar facility includes: The building is also furnished with an editing classroom, 3D Audio voice-over room, and a multi-purpose classroom. The school's community television station began in August , but the television program has been on-going since The College of Liberal Arts serves as the intellectual heart of the University, with courses provided by this college being part of every student's program of study regardless of their major. The college is divided into two distinct administrative units: The College is divided into two departments — the Department of Professional Education — early education, elementary education, middle school education, secondary education, special education, and community education and the Department of Health and Human Performance — physical education, health education, athletic training and exercise physiology.
The College also offers a Master of Arts in Education with concentrations in special education, advanced special education, community education, technology, educational leadership, advanced teaching and sports leadership and coaching. West Liberty University offers one of the few comprehensive dental hygiene programs in the Ohio Valley.
It was also one of the first colleges in the nation to offer such a program. The program was opened in September, , and graduated its first class in Since then about 2, students have graduated from the program.
The dental hygiene students have the opportunity to enroll for a professional program ending with an Associate of Science Degree in Dental Hygiene or a professional program ending with a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene. The Dental Hygiene office offers dental cleaning services for any member of the community at affordable rates. The facility features the latest in dental technology and underwent a renovation in The program, which was mostly female dominated, is graduating more and more male students each year.

Health Sciences Building was dedicated and opened on May 3, West Liberty University offers 9 organizations made up of fraternities and sororities, 18 academic and professional organizations, 10 honoraries, 6 sports and recreational clubs, 6 religiously affiliated groups and 23 special interest groups. West Liberty University has nine Greek organizations on campus. West Liberty University's Intercollegiate Athletics Program is an integral part of the institution's total educational mission. Close to nineteen men's and women's sports are offered: There is also a coed cheerleading squad.
Two months later, the new league was unveiled as the Mountain East Conference , scheduled to begin play in —14 with West Liberty as one of its 12 charter members.
The Blatnik building is now the Blatnik "Wing" and is named for Dr. Albert Blatnik, long-time coach, director of athletics, and chairperson of the Department of Physical Education. This area consists of a recently renovated gymnasium, four classrooms, numerous offices, a four-lane swimming pool and a wrestling practice room.
The Bartell "Wing," named for Dr. Joseph Bartell, former dean, athletic director and multi-sport coach, houses four racquetball courts, three classrooms, lockers, a training room, an athletic weight room, a wellness center, offices, and connects with the arena. Arnett, Academic Dean of West Liberty from to The complex includes 12 laboratories, six general-purpose classrooms, faculty offices, and houses the biology and chemistry units. A modern greenhouse is located on the south end of the building.

The school catalog of described a school year that lasted from early September to late June. Male students studied classical subjects such as Greek, Latin, and philosophy, and females studied such things as literature, writing, and geography. All students attended daily chapel, and public worship on the Sabbath. Students secured lodging in private homes or boarding houses. For the next 61 years, the school was a teacher preparatory institution, and until , also a high school.
The first 50 graduating classes, —, totaled only students. There was no physical education department or scholastic athletics before No activity approached the popularity of the literary societies, the best-known of which were the Bryants and the Irvings, rivals from to The post-World War I period proved unsettling. State education officials, concerned about low enrollments in and weak community support, suggested moving the campus to a location nearer Wheeling. In the end, the West Liberty defenders convinced the state to permit the school to remain on its hilltop.
In , John S. Bonar, Class of , became president and began to expand the school. During the Great Depression , enrollments fell once more; appropriations shrank; and faculty salaries suffered deep cuts. Then in Paul N. Elbin, a member of the English faculty since , assumed the presidency, a position he was to hold for 35 years.
