This is a conflated edition of King Lear, with Foakes combining the two original sources. When the chips are down -- that is, when one cannot have both versions -- he tends to opt for the later Folio one. This is especially so in the last scene where this choice produces a somewhat less bleak ending.

They are usually well See All Buying Options. This is definitely one of the easier Shakespeare plays to read. The verbiage is more modern than one might find in say Romeo and Juliet, and it is still very well written. King Lear Arden Shakespeare: King Lear Norton Critical Editions. I give it five stars because who am I to say Shakespeare deserves less.
I dragged myself through it. I had no sympathy for Lear. He just drove me to distraction.
He was so blind to the relationships and the predictable effects of his own decisions. God help those who had him for a king. I like comic books, but I'm skeptical of the "Illustrated Classics" approach. So I was a bit leery buying this pun unintended, but not bad. The art is lovely and has a timeless, surreal quality. The stylizations only enhance it. Especially watch the Fool: This artist knows what he's doing and is worth watching. As for the writer: But this Shakespeare guy, I think he's got potential.
