The Monument to the Great Fire of London
Fenchurch Street or Tower Gateway. Although only a recreation of the original theatre, the Shakespeare Theatre Company's own auditorium is one of the most famous theatres in the world. A symbol of destruction and restoration The Monument is a Doric column made of stone standing ft 62 m tall crowned with a gilded urn of fire, representing the Great Fire of London of Better from outside The Monument commemorates one of the saddest events that took place in London and the visit to see the column is worthwhile, although we recommend not climbing the steps, as the views leave a great deal to be desired.
Schedule April — September: I am very glad I made room for this stop.
It is a long way up some very narrow stairs but at the top you are met with a very lovely view of the city and I am now the proud owner of a certificate This is a spectacular column and a must see if you are visiting the City. The steps are narrow but the view from the top is excellent although you mainly see the surrounding skyscrapers which I find impressive.
