I love falling on more and more pieces of hers to read. This was not a favorite story of -- this retelling of the universe, of birth and death, in parallel, between the universe and the science fiction writer -- but I still absolutely, madly adore her entire usage of the english language and I would read her w I played some catch-up on new pieces added to Valente's list in Goodreads. Girl's dad is a performance artist whose driven mad and finally to suicide by a Critic, specifically concerning an interstellar scene created for one of the girl's homework assignment. Years later, girl is now "Running the Snake" by Kage Baker — A group of con men create a new deity in ancient Londinium, get mixed up in local politics and end up investigating a murder.

    Catherine Tobler Mechanically enhanced human designed to work underwater on Titan makes a career change. OK story, but left me feeling I'd missed a point someplace. Overall, one of the best Clarkesworld issues I have read. Because half of these short stories are reprints, which is fine, but disconcerting at times. It's getting less evident it is a place where good readers can become good writers in the same publication.

    Clarkesworld Magazine Podcast: A Cigarette Burn In Your Memory by Bo Balder

    This issue had "Streams and Mountains," an alright tale with no satisfying ending about cryptids. Again, perhaps I just wanted the world's rules to be more clearly delineated, especially early on. Good, especially for a YA reader. But, fun, kinda sandalpunk noir. Can't say I loved the arc this story took, but it was experimental and curious enough to keep me for its length.

    More solid than previous months: So overall, each story would not make my Best Prose of list, but it's not a bad collection of stories, and the stories aren't bad.
