Most helpful customer reviews on Amazon. This is the third book I have bought by this author. I read them out of order. I enjoy the characters and would have really liked to continue reading the story. I just could not get past the errors in the book. There were grammar errors, parts of words missing, entire words missing out of sentences, words misspelled every time which indicates ignorance not a mistake , punctuation used when it shouldn't have been and not used when it was need, I could go on.

I am not the grammar police but there were so many editing errors that it was incredibly distracting to read and annoying to the point that I just quit. More wacky hijinks from PI in training Maggie and her best friend, cake baker and ex-Ad. I enjoyed this one as a quick, easy read. The mystery element was almost non-existent as Maggie and Odessa's 'detective work' was more the result of serendipity and people who just liked to tell them things than it was any real work on their part. But these two are engaging and the humor, while not as laugh out loud as the first one, is still very much evident.

I hope that Jill Brock will write many, many more Maggie and Odessa mysteries because the two books so far in this series are very good. The reason I gave it a 3-star rating has to do with the editing. I am truly anal about edits. In her defense, Ms. Brock self published this book, but Booksurge, the publisher, didn't do her any favors in the editing department. This is the most unfortunate excuse for a book that I have ever had the misfortune to read. It was impossible to keep up a flow of words with all the mistakes she makes. She left out words, used the wrong words, changed verb tenses in the middle of the sentence, misspelled words, used the wrong punctuations or no punctuations when needed.

You can tell this was a vanity press published book. No editor would ever let ANY of those thousands of mistakes by. Just a couple of examples: And her storyline wasn't that awful. Her ending was a real stretch. Winding up all the loose ends with, basically, he told us what we wanted to know. But who could concentrate on the story when all one saw was mistake after mistake. The book was a nice read. Nothing heavy or special. I read this book on a plane and layover. Feedback If you need help or have a question for Customer Service, contact us. I read this book on a plane and layover. Her former boss and mentor, Burke Peterson, rode off into the sunset when accusations of embezzlement came to light against him, leaving O to handle the fallout. Years pass and guess who shows up without the horse he left on? Feelings rage though time has passed, and yet something just doesn't sit right.

Why weren't there any charges brought against Peterson? Why is the FBI following him now? Do they really think he came back after all this time to murder the current owner of his former place of employment? Enter Maggie, O's best friend and a P. She may not be "official" yet, but she can read people from a mile away. Mix these two well and what do you have? The ingredients for a delightful treat! I'd highly recommend this book and look forward to seeing more from this rising author soon!

Odessa has recovered from her anxiety attacks and started a new life. Comfortably baking desserts at her family's restaurant, The Blue Moon, and settled into her new romantic relationship, all seems well and calm.

See a Problem?

Did he make some kind of deal? Why is Burke back in town? Is Odessa going to kill him like she always planned? Much to everyone's surprise, Odessa has the opposite reaction. She greets Burke Peterson with a huge warm hug. Lee goes into crazy boyfriend mode and shows a jealous streak.
