As a father, reading this book was a laugh a minute, particularly because I could put myself in the shoes of the author more times than I care to count. There were so many times that I laughed, but just as many times as I became thoughtful and nostalgic about memories I had forgotten from years earlier. The more serious side of the book was just as significant, and it gave me a new perspective on how other people experience some of the universal joys and sorrows of fatherhood.

Perhaps most importantly, it was honest and revealing, and an author who isn't afraid to pour their heart out on the page always makes for good reading. It was a pleasure to read this book, not only as a healthy reflection on my own life, but also as a reminder that people struggle silently with more than they ever show to the world. I would give this book to dozens of other fathers for the comedic side, but it is appropriate and necessary for everyone to read this book. It is the honest account of a man struggling with issues that few of us can relate to directly, but certainly gives us insight to the human condition.

To do that while still wrapping it around stories of tampons, daddy issues, and the painful and beautiful process of a child growing up was impressive as an admirer of good writers and enjoyable as a reader that is always looking for a little beauty in words. Elswick is what writers should be, brave and unabashed about the truths that only he can truly understand.

For a man to conquer such unbelievable obstacles and still have the perspective and confidence to write about it so sincerely is impressive in itself. However, Elswick takes it a step further. He is funny, insightful, and even profound at times. He might be airing his funny tales of fatherhood and some of his most private moments of weakness and fear, but he does it in a remarkably comfortable and casual way.
